About This Product
Shaking the two liquids together lets the organic solvent extract protactinium-234, a product of the uranium-238 decay series. When the layers resettle, a Geiger tube held by a stand and clamp near the top of the container monitors its decay. Other decay products stay in the lower aqueous layer, and their alpha and beta radiation cannot penetrate the container. The curve can be recorded manually or with a data logger.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How long does a decay measurement take?
A clear half-life curve can be captured over 5 to 10 minutes. Protactinium-234 has a half-life of about 70 seconds.
Q2. What equipment is used with it?
Associated products include the Geiger-Muller Tube and Geiger-Muller Tube Holder, a Scaler-Timer and a Retort Stand Bundle.
Q3. How should it be stored?
Store it at 8-15 °C in a radioactive sources cabinet. The generator is radioactive, flammable and corrosive, so the necessary precautions must be taken.
