Educational Stalagmometer
Product Code : SCL-BP-12564
Quick Answer: Educational Stalagmometer is a capillary glass instrument for comparing the surface tension of liquids by counting the drops released from a defined volume between two reference marks.
Last updated: October 2026
Key Features
- Central bulb with upper and lower reference marks
- Narrow capillary and delivery tip form controlled drops
- Drop-count method for relative surface tension
- Manual operation, with no electrical supply needed
About This Product
The clean instrument is rinsed with a little test liquid, clamped vertically and filled above the upper mark with a suction bulb. Drops are counted as the meniscus falls from the upper to the lower mark without extra pressure, and the count is compared with a reference liquid at the same temperature. It is used to study how solutes, detergents and surfactants change surface tension, and to demonstrate cohesion and drop formation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How does a stalagmometer compare surface tension?
It counts the drops formed as a fixed volume of liquid runs out between the two reference marks. The count for the test liquid is compared with a reference liquid at the same temperature using the approved formula.
